Founding AI Engineer

About the Role: We're partnering with an early-stage health technology company making preventive, longevity-focused care accessible to everyday patients—covered by insurance. Their AI platform supports patients between clinical visits, helping them understand their health risks and take meaningful action over time. They're hiring a founding AI + backend engineer to build the core intelligence system: the engine that turns each patient's clinical data into a living, individualized model of their health.

What You'll Do

• Own the data pipelines, services, and AI systems that ingest patient data—labs, vitals, history, wearables, coaching notes—and turn it into actionable intelligence
• Tackle the core technical challenges: fusing multi-source health data into a coherent patient picture, reasoning with LLMs and retrieval, and surfacing real risks without hallucinating
• Form hypotheses, ship the smallest thing that tests them, instrument results across the patient lifecycle, and decide what to do next
• Design and run experiments: ship behind a flag, measure, and kill what doesn't work
• Build AI outputs that are fast, reliable, and safe for both patients and clinicians
• Set the patterns—patient modeling, AI evaluation, shipping, and measurement—that future engineers will inherit
• Work across product, clinical, and engineering functions

What You Are

• A strong backend engineer comfortable owning systems end to end: services, data pipelines, infrastructure
• Experienced building AI in production—not just prompting, but the retrieval, evaluation, and guardrails that make AI trustworthy
• A hypothesis-driven builder: comfortable shipping behind flags, measuring, and cutting what doesn't work
• Able to move without a spec; you optimize for learning velocity over polish
• Genuinely invested in whether AI output is correct and useful—especially when it's about someone's health
• Drawn to healthcare, behavior change, and preventive care
