Head of Trust & Safety

Level: M5 — Director/Head Of

Location: Remote in Europe (Netherlands preferred)

Reports to: CEO

Employment Type: Full-time

About the Company

We are partnering with an independent social media platform built on the belief that people should have more control over what they see, say, and share online.

Our mission is to create a platform where users retain ownership of their data, can reach their audiences directly, and experience a feed shaped by choice rather than opaque algorithms.

We are a small, fast-moving team building for a large and growing global community. We’re looking for people who care deeply about online communities, digital safety, and the future of social platforms.

About the Role

The app is hiring a Head of Trust & Safety to help design and scale the platform’s safety infrastructure from the ground up. This role is not simply about reacting to incidents — it’s about creating the systems, frameworks, and operational culture that make safety foundational to the platform.

You have experience in Trust & Safety, Platform Integrity, or Content Policy, ideally within a social platform, marketplace, or large online community. You understand that early platform decisions shape long-term safety culture. You’re operationally strong, structured, and capable of building scalable systems in high-growth environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and manage requests from government agencies, law enforcement, regulatory authorities, and safety organizations, including establishing response protocols, assessing legal validity, and maintaining documentation and audit trails
  • Design and implement the platform’s Trust & Safety infrastructure, including moderation policies, abuse reporting flows, enforcement systems, appeals processes, and transparency mechanisms
  • Build and manage relationships with industry safety partners, including hash-matching providers, trusted flagger programs, and threat intelligence vendors
  • Create internal systems for safety operations, including incident response frameworks, escalation processes, crisis response playbooks, and moderator training
  • Develop community guidelines, transparency reporting frameworks, and enforcement consistency standards
  • Partner with leadership to balance user safety, free expression, and legal compliance

What Success Looks Like

  • Within 90 days, the Trust & Safety framework, government request protocols, and key safety partnerships are established
  • Internal incident response processes are documented and operational teams have clear guidance
  • Safety decisions are made consistently using structured frameworks rather than ad hoc judgment
  • The platform has scalable safety infrastructure capable of supporting rapid user growth

What You Bring

  • Experience in Trust & Safety, Platform Integrity, or Content Policy at a social media platform, marketplace, or large online community
  • Experience handling law enforcement and regulatory requests, with a strong understanding of legal validity and compliance considerations
  • Familiarity with hash-matching systems, abuse detection technologies, and safety tooling integrations
  • Strong operational and systems-thinking mindset; you build repeatable frameworks and processes
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure or high-stakes situations
  • Comfort working in a startup environment where many systems and processes are being built for the first time

What This Role Is Not

  • A reactive, case-by-case moderation role without ownership of systems and infrastructure
  • A role focused solely on executing within an existing Trust & Safety organization
  • A role that views safety and free expression as mutually exclusive

Compensation

We believe in transparent compensation. Salary ranges vary depending on work location.

  • Netherlands, Ireland, UK, Germany: €86,108 / £76,616
  • Spain, Portugal, Poland: €65,276

We hire across Europe. Candidates in other European locations are encouraged to apply, and compensation details will be discussed during the interview process.

Employees receive health insurance and paid time off benefits in accordance with local labor regulations.

Equal Opportunity

We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building an inclusive and diverse team. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic.

If you require accommodations during the hiring process, we will work with you to support your needs.

Application Process

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

The interview process typically includes:

  • A 30-minute introductory conversation with People Operations
  • At least two additional interviews with team members and leadership

We aim to respond to applicants within 5 business days after the application window closes.

Candidates must have the legal right to work in their stated location. Visa sponsorship is not currently available.
