Position Summary
Provides nursing services, treatments, and diagnostic/preventive procedures for inmate patients within a correctional healthcare setting.
Qualifications Required:
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program
Experience — 1+ years in ANY of the following:
- Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC)
- Long Term Acute Care (LTAC/LTACH)
- Medical/Surgical (Med-Surg)
Licenses/Certifications — ANY of the following required:
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS)
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) — active Texas license
- IV Therapy Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Overview:
Schedule & Positions Available
- 8 Day Shift LVN positions (Full-Time)
- Rotating 4:3 schedule
- Shift start times: 04:30, 05:00, 05:30, or 05:45
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret physicians' orders and administer prescribed medication
- Assist physician with sick call when present; independently observe and assess signs/symptoms when physician is not present
- Apply surgical dressings and bandages
- Provide emergency first aid care
- Check and record vital signs
- Report reactions to treatments/medications and changes in patients' emotional or physical condition
- Instruct inmates on discharge planning and health care education
- May supervise and instruct correctional staff on inmate health care needs
- Consult with supervisor on complex or problem cases
- Check and order medical supplies
- Maintain accurate medical records
