Position Title: Quantum Computing Analyst / Consultant

Engagement Type: Contract (6 – 12 Months)

Location: Remote/Hybrid (Must be residing and authorized to work in Canada)

Capacity: Flexible / Set Contract Hours (Full-time or fractional options available)

Position Overview

Our client is actively expanding its Innovation Portfolio to build internal technical leadership and counter-capabilities in Quantum Computing. As major financial institutions accelerate their quantum strategies, Our client is establishing an internal capability to test, evaluate, and vet quantum algorithms and third-party vendor deliverables (e.g., IBM quantum frameworks).

This role requires a practitioner who bridges deep quantum mechanics and hardware testing with practical financial enterprise applications. Operating within a dedicated sandbox environment, you will run Proofs of Concept (PoCs), validate quantum models, and ensure that vendor solutions deliver measurable, high-efficiency business value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sandbox PoC Execution: Design, run, and benchmark Proofs of Concept (PoCs) in a quantum sandbox environment to test algorithm viability, efficiency, and scalability for enterprise use.
  • Vendor & Model Vetting: Independently evaluate and validate external consultant/vendor deliverables (e.g., IBM models), identifying technical risks, implementation obstacles, and accuracy metrics.
  • Algorithm Development & Optimization: Test, code, and optimize quantum algorithms tailored to key banking domain challenges, including:
  • Fraud Detection & Anomaly Mitigation
  • Portfolio Optimization
  • Climate Risk Modeling & Stress Testing
  • Stakeholder Translation: Translate complex technical findings and quantum output into clear, accessible, and actionable insights for non-technical business leaders and key executives.
  • Strategic Input: Advise our client’s Innovation leadership team on quantum hardware capabilities, technical bottlenecks, and roadmap prioritization.

Role Profile & Key Qualifications

Profile Split: 70% Deep Technical Expertise / 30% Financial & Enterprise Domain Understanding. (This is more of a soft goal than a must have)

Technical Requirements

  • Quantum Hardware Experience: Hands-on experience executing tests and running workloads on actual quantum hardware platforms.
  • Quantum SDKs & Frameworks: Strong coding proficiency with quantum development kits and libraries such as PennyLane, D-Wave, Qiskit, or similar frameworks.
  • Algorithm Vetting: Proven capability to write, debug, and benchmark quantum algorithms for optimization, machine learning, or simulation problems.
  • Prototyping Environment: Experience building and executing technical PoCs within cloud-based or enterprise sandbox environments.

Education & Academic Background

  • Advanced Degree: Master’s degree or PhD in Quantum Computing, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Experience Level: Open to recent PhD or Master’s graduates transitioning directly out of academic or instructor-led research labs. Deep academic specialization with practical coding capability is highly valued over formal corporate tenure.

Domain & Enterprise Exposure

  • Enterprise Awareness: Understanding of enterprise workflows, data scale, and governance structures inherent to large financial institutions.
  • Grounding: Focus on practical computational finance applications (avoiding purely theoretical fields without commercial application, such as astrophysics or space sciences).
  • Communication: Ability to bridge theoretical quantum concepts with practical commercial value.

Engagement Terms & Constraints

  • Exclusivity: Dual employment or academic roles are permissible provided there is no active conflict of interest (candidate cannot actively consult for or be employed by a direct banking competitor).
  • Location Constraint: Sourcing is strictly restricted to candidates currently located in Canada.
  • Work Arrangement: Fully remote work setup with set hours agreed upon at contract execution.
