The Opportunity
You will play a vital operational role keeping our heavy civil fleet running smoothly across major roadway and site development projects. This role empowers you to apply your technical diagnostic talents in both shop and field environments for a respected, family-owned industry leader. You will directly support the infrastructure builds that keep the metropolitan Detroit area moving.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance, inspections, and mechanical repairs on heavy trucks and civil construction equipment.
- Travel to active jobsites across the Detroit metropolitan area to rapidly diagnose and resolve equipment breakdowns.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues involving engines, transmissions, and advanced electrical systems to minimize downtime.
- Generate and maintain meticulous work orders and maintenance records to track fleet health and productivity.
- Execute general mechanical repairs efficiently while working independently in the field or shop with minimal direct supervision.
- Adhere to strict company and industry safety standards to maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience maintaining heavy equipment, such as excavators, front-end loaders, or heavy trucks.
- Proven experience performing preventive maintenance, mechanical troubleshooting, and general equipment repairs.
- Solid working knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, and automotive electrical systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to update management and document repair logs accurately.
- Availability to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends during active construction demands.
- Ability to perform physical tasks outdoors year-round in all weather conditions, including lifting up to 75 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Practical experience with welding and advanced electrical system diagnostics.
- Demonstrated ability to operate various types of heavy civil equipment for testing and positioning.
- Prior background supporting fast-paced civil infrastructure, utility, or roadway paving operations.
