Our client, a growing multi-entity organization, is seeking an experienced accounting leader to build and run their accounting function during a period of significant growth.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Management & Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing accounting organization
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Partner with executive leadership to align accounting processes with corporate objectives and growth initiatives

Financial Leadership & Strategic Support

  • Serve as a key business partner to the CFO and executive leadership team
  • Lead the accounting function in support of growth initiatives, acquisitions, new business lines, and geographic expansion
  • Present financial results, accounting matters, and KPIs to leadership and stakeholders

Financial Reporting

  • Own the integrity of the company's financial statements as the principal accounting leader
  • Ensure timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Oversee consolidated financial statements and executive reporting packages
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, estimates, and accounting judgments
  • Drive close process improvements, automation, and reporting efficiencies

Technical Accounting

  • Research and implement accounting treatment for complex transactions (revenue recognition, leases, debt, acquisitions)
  • Serve as the primary resource for U.S. GAAP interpretation and application
  • Prepare technical accounting position papers and memoranda

Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Design and maintain a robust internal control environment
  • Lead periodic risk assessments and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with company policy and financial governance standards

Project & Operational Accounting

  • Oversee project accounting, including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, WIP reporting, job costing, and contract assets/liabilities
  • Review project cost forecasts, change orders, and contract billings
  • Partner with Operations teams on project performance and cash flow visibility

Treasury & Working Capital Management

  • Partner with Treasury on working capital optimization and cash conversion
  • Monitor AR aging, retainage balances, and contract assets
  • Support cash forecasting, liquidity planning, and banking relationships

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Lead ERP optimization, automation, and reporting improvements
  • Establish and monitor accounting performance metrics (close cycle time, reconciliation completion, billing accuracy, collections)

Audit, Tax & Compliance

  • Lead external audits; manage relationships with auditors, lenders, investors, sureties, and regulators
  • Partner with tax advisors on income, sales/use, and property tax matters
  • Oversee compliance with bonding, insurance, and licensing requirements

M&A & Corporate Development

  • Support acquisition due diligence, purchase accounting, and post-acquisition integration
  • Assist with valuation support and quality of earnings reviews


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA required; public accounting experience strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience
  • Experience leading accounting in complex, multi-entity environments
  • Construction industry experience preferred


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
  • Strong technical accounting expertise
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing accounting teams
  • Experience with project accounting, revenue recognition, and multi-entity consolidations
  • Strong analytical, communication, and executive presentation skills
