Position Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical and client-centric Tax Attorney to join our Wealth Management team. In this role, you will not represent clients in court; instead, you will serve as a high-level consultant for ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals and families. You will bridge the gap between complex tax code and actionable financial strategies, ensuring that our clients' investment portfolios and estate plans are optimized for tax efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Advanced Tax Planning: Design and implement sophisticated strategies to minimize income, gift, and estate tax liabilities for HNW/UHNW clients.
  • Estate & Trust Architecture: Collaborate with external legal counsel to review and structure Revocable Living Trusts, ILITs, GRATs, and Charitable Lead/Remainder Trusts.
  • Business Succession: Advise business owner clients on tax-efficient exit strategies, M&A tax implications, and transition planning.
  • Fiduciary Oversight: Review complex tax returns (1040, 1041, 706, 709) prepared by outside CPA firms to ensure alignment with the overall wealth strategy.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor changes in federal and Tennessee state tax laws (including updates to the "Hall Income Tax" legacy and trust laws) to provide timely internal and external briefings.
  • Client Relationship Management: Act as a subject matter expert in high-stakes client meetings, translating dense legal concepts into clear, "human" terms.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensure: Active member of the Tennessee State Bar (or eligible for reciprocity).
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in tax law, private client services, or trusts and estates.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Subchapter K (partnerships), Subchapter S (corporations), and generational skipping transfer (GST) tax rules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • LL.M. in Taxation or a CPA designation.
  • Experience specifically within a Multi-Family Office (MFO) or RIA environment.
  • Strong proficiency in estate planning software (e.g., Wealth.com, NumberCruncher, or Holistiplan).

Why Join a Wealth Management Firm?

  • No Billable Hours: Transition from a "time-entry" culture to a "value-add" culture focused on long-term client outcomes.
  • Holistic Impact: See the immediate result of your tax strategies on a family’s financial legacy.
  • Nashville Growth: Be part of one of the fastest-growing wealth hubs in the Southeast.
