ABOUT THE COMPANY
We are recruiting on behalf of a Series B fintech company building the definitive solution to accounts receivable - one of the most consequential and most ignored problems in financial infrastructure. Every business depends on getting paid, yet the software governing that process has remained broken for decades. Tabs is changing that.
Founded in 2023, the company has raised $92M from Lightspeed Venture Partners, General Catalyst, and Primary Ventures, including a $55M Series B in 2025. The company is operating with early-stage startup urgency while demonstrating established company proof points: $5M ARR target delivered $8M; $2M incremental ARR target delivered $3M+. Customers include Cursor and Statsig, with approximately 150 employees scaling behind proven product-market fit.
The company is past 0-to-1 and firmly in the 1-to-10 scaling phase - the moment where architectural and cultural decisions made now will define the organization for years.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to join our engineering team as a high-impact individual contributor. This is not a management role - this is an engineer who leads by doing and shapes technical direction through depth, rigor, and influence.
You will own complex technical projects end-to-end, from architecture through implementation to production. You will work directly with our CTO, VP of Engineering, and Head of Product to align engineering efforts with company priorities - and push back when you have a strong point of view. Roughly 80% of your time will be spent driving code and working directly with product. The remaining 20% is about making the engineers around you better.
We are not looking for someone who manages. We are looking for someone who leads by doing and isn't afraid to challenge decisions when they have a strong point of view.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Own and drive complex technical projects end-to-end, from architecture through implementation to production
- Design and scale highly reliable, secure, and performant systems powering Tabs' AI-driven workflows
- Partner closely with our CTO, VP of Engineering, and Head of Product to align engineering efforts with company priorities - and challenge decisions when you disagree
- Contribute meaningfully to one or more of our seven engineering teams: AI/ML, billing and payments, commercial graph, ERP, revenue, front end, or platform (flexibility based on your strengths and interests)
- Mentor and support other engineers, helping to raise the bar on technical excellence and best practices
- Help build the culture and foundation of Tabs' engineering organization
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required
- 7-15 years of experience as a software engineer building complex products at early-stage B2B and AI startups
- Proven track record at Series A-to-C companies during their 1-to-10 scaling phase
- Stable career history with demonstrated long-term ownership in previous roles (average tenure of at least 2 years)
- Clear career progression, ideally progressing from senior to staff level
- Solid foundation in CS fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems
- Experience standing by strong opinions and constructively disagreeing with leadership
- Demonstrated track record supporting, teaching, and mentoring other engineers
- High autonomy - you drive initiatives with minimal structure in a small, fast-moving team
Strongly Preferred
- Prior experience in fintech or AI-native startups (e.g., Ramp, Brex, Rippling)
- Expertise with TypeScript, Python, AWS, NestJS, and Next.js
- Experience designing and scaling systems for high-reliability, mission-critical workloads
- Cross-functional collaboration experience with product, design, and leadership teams
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to make decisions with incomplete information
This Role Is For You If
- You obsess over building systems that are correct, reliable, and performant at scale
- You thrive on hard technical problems that require architectural depth and rigor
- You are energized by working on consequential problems that impact real businesses
- You enjoy mentoring other engineers and raising the technical bar across teams
- You have strong opinions on technology and product direction, and aren't afraid to voice them
- You want to work in an environment where leadership values intellectual diversity and constructive disagreement
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Base salary: $200,000 - $250,000 depending on experience
- Competitive equity package
- Full health, dental, and vision coverage
- 401k with match
- In-person 5 days per week in New York, NY (Soho)
