Senior Embedded Software Developer
High Tech Genesis designs software that powers the world’s most demanding telecom and high-tech products. As a Senior Embedded Software Developer you will own the firmware that makes those products reliable, real-time, and production-ready. Your code ships in devices our clients cannot afford to fail.
Performance Objectives
- Deliver production-quality C/C++ firmware for new hardware platforms within 90 days of onboarding, meeting timing, memory, and power budgets.
- Reduce field defects by 30 % in the first year by driving unit-test coverage above 85 % and automating hardware-in-the-loop regression.
- Lead architecture reviews that cut integration time with hardware teams by 25 % through clean HAL layers and well-defined interfaces.
- Mentor two junior developers so they independently own a subsystem within six months.
- Ship two major feature releases per year that pass client acceptance on first submission.
- Identify and close at least three critical performance or security gaps per quarter using static analysis and runtime profiling.
Environment & Resources
You report to the Embedded Practice Lead and sit inside a 10-person Ottawa-based delivery pod that includes hardware engineers, QA, and DevOps. You have access to JTAG/SWD probes, logic analyzers, RTOS licenses (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, VxWorks), GitLab CI, and a dedicated lab budget for boards and test gear. Client projects typically run 6–18 months with full-cycle ownership.
Essential Qualifications
- 7+ years writing production embedded C/C++ on ARM Cortex-M/A or similar MCUs, including bare-metal and RTOS environments.
- Proven delivery of at least two complete products from schematic to fielded firmware, including bootloaders, drivers, and over-the-air updates.
- Hands-on experience with real-time constraints, interrupt latency, DMA, and low-power modes that you can demonstrate with measurable results.
- Ability to read schematics, use oscilloscopes, and collaborate daily with hardware engineers to close issues in hours, not weeks.
- Strong Git, code-review, and CI discipline; you treat firmware as software that must be testable and maintainable.
Role Selling Points
- Work on the actual silicon of Fortune-500 telecom and industrial clients—not internal tools.
- Small, senior team; your architecture decisions ship, they do not sit in a backlog.
- Ottawa-based with hybrid flexibility and direct access to the lab.
- Equal-opportunity employer that values diverse perspectives and supports an accessible hiring process.
