CBS² is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our team as a Transportation Design Engineer. This is a full-time role based out of any of our five locations.
CBS² is seeking a Transportation Design Engineer to support the development of transportation and roadway projects, with a focus on WisDOT work, from concept through construction. This role is responsible for contributing to roadway design, plan development, and project documentation while working closely with project managers and senior designers. You’ll gain hands-on experience in both office and field settings, supporting design calculations, drafting, and coordination across project teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who is eager to grow, build technical expertise, and contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects that serve our communities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and development of roadway and transportation projects, including horizontal and vertical alignments
- Prepare 2D and 3D roadway designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Support the production of construction plans, specifications, and project documentation
- Perform quantity calculations and assist in developing cost estimates
- Contribute to technical reports and supporting project deliverables
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and technicians to meet project goals and deadlines
- Participate in field visits and site observations to support project development and design accuracy
- Review and incorporate feedback from senior staff, addressing redlines and markups
- Utilize tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite in daily work
- Ensure work aligns with project standards, including WisDOT requirements where applicable
- Maintain organized project files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in transportation or civil engineering design
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or successful completion of the FE exam strongly preferred
- Basic understanding of roadway design principles and engineering fundamentals
- Experience or exposure to AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take direction from senior staff
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally for field visits
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Internship or prior experience working on WisDOT or transportation projects
- Familiarity with WisDOT standards, processes, or documentation
- Experience using Bluebeam for plan review and markups
- Exposure to hydraulic or drainage design concepts
- Experience assisting with quantity takeoffs or cost estimating
- Familiarity with Wisconsin municipal or county infrastructure projects
