Internship opportunities may be available in transportation, traffic, municipal engineering, structural engineering, water and wastewater, construction, surveying, architecture, grant writing, marketing, human resources, finance, information technology, and other professional areas. We are open to interns in any stage of their educational journey.


CBS² internships are designed to provide students with meaningful work, exposure to real projects, and opportunities to learn from experienced professionals. Interns may assist with technical assignments, fieldwork, documentation, project coordination, research, or administrative initiatives depending on their academic background and area of interest.


Interns are encouraged to ask questions, build relationships, explore different career paths, and gain a better understanding of how their work contributes to clients and communities.


Potential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist team members with active projects and day-to-day assignments.
  • Prepare drawings, calculations, reports, spreadsheets, presentations, or other project materials.
  • Support data collection, research, documentation, and quality review.
  • Participate in project meetings, team discussions, job-site visits, or field activities.
  • Learn and utilize applicable software, systems, equipment, and professional tools.
  • Coordinate with mentors, project managers, technical staff, and other interns.
  • Assist with project organization, file management, and internal initiatives.
  • Gain exposure to project planning, design, construction, client service, or business operations.
  • Ask questions, seek feedback, and actively participate in learning opportunities.
  • Complete an internship project or presentation when applicable.
  • Follow company safety, quality, and professional standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

We encourage students with a variety of educational backgrounds and experience levels to apply. Relevant qualifications may include:

  • Current enrollment in a college, university, technical college, or other applicable educational program.
  • Academic focus related to the internship area of interest.
  • Interest in gaining practical, hands-on professional experience.
  • Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and receive feedback.
  • Ability to manage assignments and meet agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Ability to work from a CBS² office on a regular basis.
  • Valid driver’s license for internships that include fieldwork or project-site travel.


Desired Skills & Experience

  • Relevant coursework, student organization involvement, prior employment, or project experience.
  • Familiarity with applicable software, equipment, or technical tools.
  • Previous internship, job-shadowing, field, construction, design, or office experience.
  • Interest in community-focused projects and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Availability to work throughout the requested internship term.
  • Interest in returning for future internships or full-time opportunities.
